48 Prince of Wales visits Newe 1864

On Saturday last, their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales drove from Abergeldie by Corndavon Lodge, presently tenanted by Lord Holmesdale, to Lochbulg, where they alighted, and rode on ponies by Lagganauld, the shooting-box of Lord Henry Bentinck, to Sir Charles Forbes’s shooting-lodge in Corgarff, where carriages awaited them. They then proceeded down Donside, Skellater, Inverernan, and Candacraig, to visit Castle Newe, where they were received by Charles Forbes, Esq., yr. of Newe, and Mrs Forbes, and partook of luncheon. Interviewing the grounds about the Castle, they returned by Blelack and Ballater to Abergeldie Castle in the evening, delighted with the scenery of Donside and the fine day they were fortunate in getting for the journey. On reaching Ballater, which they did at seven o’clock in the evening, the Prince got out of the carriage and drove a pair of greys home.
