86 Braehead Cottage BelnacraigBraehead
First cottage on the left up the hill at Belnacraig is the cottage of Braehead.
Presumably this cottage was built about the time of its neighbour across the road, Craig cottage, i.e. about 1860. It was recently extended with an extension at the back.
The only record of residents at Braehead is of Willie & Jessie Thom who lived there probably in the 1940s and 50s and Prof Olivier Abrioux, Professor of French at Aberdeen University who owned the cottage between the 1960’s and the 1980’s
If anyone knows the names of the occupants earlier than that please contact via the site email address

William and Jessie were my Great Grand Parents, i know they were resident here at the outbreak of WW1 as i once saw a photograph of them all outside, with their four sons, three of whom would die in the war and the youngest, William was to perish in the influenza epidemic that followed it. I hope this is of some assistance. I am trying to find where William Thom was born.

If this is the cottage I think it is, our family (Caies) rented this cottage as a holiday home in the late 60's and early 70's.I don't think the back part of the cottage existed then. The church was at the bottom of the road and there was a small general store at the bottom too. There were two farms on the other side of the road.
