William 'Bronkie' Bremner, born Glenbuchat Mill 1846

Terry Gale kindly provided the following text for this and the next photo of William ‘ Bronkie Bremner.

‘My wife and her brother's great, great grandfather was WILLIAM 'Bronkie' BREMNER who was born at the Mill in 1846. We failed to find the mill on our visit but my wife and I had visited Glenbuchat a few years ago and found the Kirk graveyard very useful.

WILLIAM BREMNER's father was THOMAS BREMNER who was born in Glenbuchat in 1797 and died in the glen on 21 April 1849. Thomas had married ELSPET DOW who was born in Strathdon in 1801 and died in Glenbuchat on 22 January 1885. She is listed on the 1851 Census at 1 Mill with her family. In the following Censuses until 1881 she is living in Glenbuchat with some of her children. THOMAS is listed a miller in documents I have seen and his son, WILLIAM is also later listed as a 'Miller'.

WILLIAM later became a decorated Highland Games Champion and he and Donald Dinnie would tour the Highlands competing against each other. Dinnie, in his diary, refers to WILLIAM as a 'worthy competitor. WILLIAM ended his days at Brankenentum Farm, Monymusk

WILLIAM and his wife and four of his children are buried in the Kirkyard at Leochel-Cushnie.

Any further information on the Bremner family would be appreciated.’
