Ken Cruickshank kindly provided the following information and photos.
James Walker Milne b 1890 - d 1985
James Milne was at one time a blacksmith in Glenbuchat. He married one of the Stewart girls , (marriage registration above) formerly of the Mill of Glenbuchat, but by 1913 the Stewart family had moved to Blackhillock in Glenbuchat. Alex Stewart farmed at Blackhillock until the 1960’s
James married Mary Stewart, at Huntly in 1913. They left the glen sometime after to settle in Moray. In the 1925 Valuation Roll there is a James Milne, proprietor and occupier of a house and blacksmiths shop at New Duffus, Moray.
As James was John and Alex Stewart’s brother-in-law, the album of photos of the glen eventually passed to him. – click for P&J newspaper cutting from early 1980 s.
Ken Cruickshank writes:
“On seeing the article, I visited him at his home at Myrtle Cottage Duffus in 1981 to gain some background information for the Glenbuchat Yesterdays Vol 1 publication. I took these two photos at this time.
Unfortunately, I don’t recall who the ladies either side of Mr. Milne are! (If the lady on the left was his wife Mary Stewart - I think I would have noted it. Perhaps they are his daughter and granddaughter).”
